Far from being just a stopover on your way to the airport, around Gatwick there is a wealth of fun days out for all the family to enjoy. However, if it’s the kids you’re wanting to please then look no further! In this post, we take a look at some fun things to do with your little ones to get your summer holiday off to a great start before you even board the plane.
Situated just outside Crawley, Tilgate Park is within easy reach of Gatwick. Set amongst acres of beautiful woodland and landscaped gardens, this is a real favourite for families in the local area. Tilgate’s petting zoo and aviaries (featuring a talking raven, no less!) are enough to amuse the kids for hours, but there is so much more. Your little ones can enjoy burning some energy in the large playground, which is overlooked by a family-friendly restaurant pub.
One of the most recent developments at Tilgate is Go Ape, where your little Tarzan and Janes can enjoy safely swinging through the trees, zip-lining, abseiling and climbing through the forest. This is possibly one of the best family days out you can hope for, with so much fresh air fun to be had by all.
A little further afield, half an hour’s drive from Gatwick, is the amazing Fisher’s Farm Park. A fully-functioning farm in its own right, Fisher’s has extended its facilities to include so many fun rides and activities, your children will be riveted right from the moment they arrive, until the end of the day when you have to drag them back to the car!
Treasure Chest Soft Play
If you’ve arrived early and checked into your Gatwick guest house, but it’s pouring with rain, why not take a short car journey to Treasure Chest? The enormous soft play facility is set inside a converted warehouse, and the size of it is enough to send your kids’ jaws dropping to the floor. Better still, parents can enjoy a cup of tea and a chat whilst the children play. An array of meals are served right to your table, including the popular snack boxes, whose contents you can choose to suit your child’s taste.
Who can resist a trip to the seaside? Brighton, with its buzzing city vibe and traditional British seaside fare, is the perfect destination for a family day out. Stroll through the North Laine and take in the hundreds of unique independent shops, or head to the pier to enjoy fish and chips, ice cream and amusement arcades. On a sunny day, it’s the perfect British day out.
Chessington World of Adventures
Just a nip up the motorway, and you’ll be at one of the UK’s most popular theme parks. Whether you’ve got thrill-seeking older kids, or excitable little monsters, there is something for all ages at Chessington. There’s even a zoo for the nature lovers, as well as daily shows hosted by your kids’ favourite cartoon characters, and – of course – endless rides and games to put a smile on everyone’s face.
And once you’ve worn the family out, you can enjoy a good night’s rest at Gable End, and a decent breakfast inside you before you head to your sunny holiday destination!
